Wild Tea Plant Effective for Diarrhea

Diarrhea can be cured using plants found in the wild. Ethiopian researchers conducted a study on the effectiveness of wild tea plants to cure this condition.

The traditional healers in Ethiopia and across Africa use the wild tea plant for curing conditions over the years. To further prove the healing properties of the wild tea plant, the researchers revealed their findings in an article which was published in the Journal of Evidence-Based Integrative Medicine.

What is the Wild Tea Plant?

Wild tea plant with the scientific name osyris quadripartite belongs to the sandalwood family. These leaves have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties.

Africa has been using wild tea plants for diarrhea however it is not yet validated. This is the reason why the researchers did a study to prove its effectiveness. In their study, the researchers used a mouse in which they used castor oil to allow the mouse to experience diarrhea.

Wild Tea Leaf Extracts vs Loperamide

After this, they did enter polling and gastrointestinal motility to measure the wild tea plant’s effect on diarrhea. In their experiment, they found out that that the highest dose of wild tea leaf extract decreased the wet feces in mice.

The researchers have also noted that using 200-400mg of wild leaf extract achieved a better result compared to the drug loperamide.  Loperamide is known as an oral drug that is used to remedy diarrhea.

However, based on the experiment, antimotility effects of wild leaf extract were not observable according to the researchers. The researchers agreed that the methanol found in wild tea plant extract has an impressive antidiarrheal property.

Home Remedies for Diarrhea

Diarrhea can bring pain and discomfort to anyone. It is a condition wherein our bodies experience an increase in water content and volume and frequency of bowel movement.  If in case you have experienced diarrhea, here are some home remedies to consider that are proven effective. 

  • Drink plenty of water since diarrhea can cause dehydration. It is also recommended to drink a beverage that contains electrolytes. This will help replenish your energy levels.
  • Eat foods such as fruits that are rich in potassium. Incorporate bananas, rice, apple sauce, and toast in your diet. These can help improve bowels since they are high in starch but low in fiber.

  • Consider consuming probiotics which can help add good bacteria to your stomach. These good bacteria can help you recover easily from diarrhea.

Deal with the symptoms of diarrhea by following these guidelines and couple them with the use of wild tea plant extracts to make the results more significant.
